MULTI-LEVEL FAMILY HOUSE - TEMPLESTOWE

The sloping site with its existing trees determined the split-level form and zoning of the house. The glazed entry is at the middle level which is a large informal living room, with the family and kitchen area at the lower level and the bedrooms at the upper level. Large timber decks extend out to the north from living and family areas. Decks are private from the street below and have access from adjoining rooms through large glazed sliding doors.

Materials:

  • 'Shadowclad' cladding and colorbond roofing
  • Polished hardwood timber strip flooring
  • Passive solar heating plus hot water radiators boosted with solar panels
  • Insulated walls and ceilings
  • Open areas under the house were sealed off against possible bushfire hazard by the use of special spark-proof wire mesh

This is one of the largest kit houses that Fairweather Homes has designed and delivered. It measures over 400 square metres (around 40 squares).
